Microneedling
At LiveWell Medical Aesthetics in Rapid City, SD, medical-grade microneedling is one of our most requested skin treatments: and one of the most versatile. Performed by Courtney Vesely, FNP-C, and our licensed team, microneedling uses a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, triggering your body’s natural healing response and stimulating collagen and elastin production. The result is improved skin texture, tone, and firmness from the inside out.
At LiveWell, we offer standard microneedling as well as enhanced protocols with PRP and PRF, BENEV exosomes, and Microglow: each designed to deepen the results of your treatment based on your skin goals.
What Microneedling Treats
Microneedling is effective for a wide range of skin concerns:
- Acne scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Fine lines and early wrinkles
- Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
- Dull or uneven skin tone
- Mild skin laxity
- Overall skin quality improvement
A series of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results, though some patients see meaningful improvement after a single session.
Microneedling Enhancement Options
Microneedling works well on its own. It works even better with the right enhancement. At LiveWell, we offer four options depending on your skin goals:
Standard microneedling. The baseline treatment: controlled micro-channels, collagen stimulation, and skin renewal. No serums or additives. Ideal for patients who want to start with the core treatment.
Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma). Your own platelet-rich plasma is applied during treatment to enhance healing and boost growth factor activity in the treated area. A natural regenerative option. Learn more about PRP at LiveWell.
Microneedling with PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin). The next generation of PRP: a fibrin matrix that releases growth factors more slowly over time for a sustained healing response. Learn more about PRF at LiveWell.
Microneedling with BENEV Exosomes. Our most advanced enhancement option. BENEV exosomes are nano-vesicles loaded with growth factors that penetrate deeply through the micro-channels to accelerate healing and amplify collagen production. Learn more about exosome therapy at LiveWell.
Microglow. An advanced microchanneling protocol with a full serum infusion: including exosomes, PRFM, PDGF, hyaluronic acid, and Botox: for a radiant result with minimal downtime. Learn more about Microglow.
Microneedling Services
When you come in for microneedling at LiveWell Medical Aesthetics, our specialists begin with a thorough skin assessment to determine your goals and ensure microneedling is right for you. After cleansing the skin, a topical numbing cream is applied to maximize your comfort during the procedure. Using a specialized microneedling device, our practitioner will glide fine needles over the skin’s surface, creating micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production. The procedure typically takes around 30-45 minutes, and while you might experience mild discomfort, most patients find it to be very tolerable. After the treatment, a soothing serum is applied to calm the skin and enhance hydration.
Microneedling results develop gradually as your skin produces new collagen and elastin over the following weeks. Most patients notice an improvement in skin texture, firmness, and radiance within a week or two, with optimal results appearing around 4-6 weeks post-treatment. For those targeting deeper wrinkles or acne scars, multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve more dramatic improvements. Regular treatments help maintain the youthful effects, leaving you with a smooth, rejuvenated complexion that can last for months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients find microneedling tolerable. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment and left on for 20 to 30 minutes, which significantly reduces discomfort. During the procedure you may feel mild pressure or a light scratching sensation. Most patients describe it as uncomfortable at most rather than painful.
A series of 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is recommended for most skin concerns. Patients with deeper acne scarring or more significant texture concerns may benefit from 4 to 6 sessions. Some patients see noticeable improvement after a single session. Your provider will give you a personalized recommendation at your consultation.
Redness and mild swelling are normal for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Most patients look slightly flushed, similar to a mild sunburn, and feel back to normal within 1 to 2 days. Makeup can typically be applied after 24 hours. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, direct sun exposure, and active skincare ingredients (retinol, acids) for 3 to 5 days post-treatment.
Both enhance the results of microneedling by delivering regenerative factors through the micro-channels created during treatment. PRP and PRF are derived from your own blood: natural and autologous, with no allergy risk. BENEV exosomes are lab-derived nano-vesicles loaded with a concentrated blend of growth factors: generally considered the most powerful enhancement option available, with the deepest penetration and the broadest range of growth factors. The right choice depends on your goals and budget. Your provider will discuss both at your consultation.
Yes. Acne scarring is one of the most well-documented uses for microneedling. The controlled micro-injuries stimulate new collagen in the scar tissue, which gradually fills in depressed scars and softens texture over a series of treatments. Results vary depending on the type and depth of scarring: your provider will assess your skin at your consultation and set realistic expectations.
Initial improvement in skin texture and tone may be visible within 2 to 4 weeks of your first session as new collagen begins to form. More significant results from a full series typically become visible 4 to 6 weeks after your final session. Collagen remodeling continues for up to 3 to 6 months following treatment, so results often continue to improve beyond what you see right after the series.
Active acne or open lesions in the treatment area are a contraindication for microneedling. Needling over active breakouts can spread bacteria and worsen inflammation. We ask that active acne is controlled before beginning a microneedling series. If you are working on clearing your skin, our team can discuss the right treatment sequence at your consultation.
